No -that is not the case. Outsourcing of govt work to private sector is driven by costs-mismanagement and patriotism is a wild card that less-compebreastive bidders use.

Smart. I have been telling them the same thing to many americans(shall we say idiots)-that the US prints paper and not wealth in itself. But they simply refuse to understand or maybe they understand -but are loathe to accept it.

or point to dirt-cheap services from India (in dollar terms) and say that if it costs 20% US salaries to hire someone in India -he must be 20% as productive because you get what you pay for.

maybe they did it for both vested interests and the american public. They inflated the currency so that americans (special interest as well as ordinary people) can live extravagantly -compared to some 50 ys down the line., when the country was not weighed down by Vietnam. There is a pretty good reason why they would do it. if the std of living of americans improves -it improves the political future of whoever is running the country. As Reagan summed it during his campaign "are you better off now than you were before(he became president)?".
