I follow the housing market pretty closely, and it looks like we're on the cusp of a fairly serious correction. Inventory has skyrocketed in a lot of places. This hasn't translated into much of a price correction, yet, but I'm sure it will as even more houses come on the market (speculators panicking and starting to bail), fewer buyers, etc... it's got to put a lot of downward pressure on the market.

And, to respond to some comments on my other post: Sure, the government can sieze my bank account. They're not SUPPOSED TO but I agree that doesn't mean they won't. However, they can seize houses, cars, surplus canned goods, guns, you name it. I'm certainly not going to buy a house just past the peak of the bubble. I may go around and make some low-ball offers and check out the county Sheriff's forclosure auctions later this year.

I think FDR did some good things. Some of the "new deal" programs built a lot of infrastructure that helped the rest of the economy and provided benefits that we enjoy today. I wouldn't mind having someone like that as president NOW: Making long-term investments in our future instead of blowing our dough on stupid wars, bloating all the bureaucracies, etc....

You and I may have to diverge on this point a bit. As f***ed up and crooked as some of these companies are, *I* would rather deal with our corp culture the way it is as opposed to a government out of control. Sure Nazi Germany and the USSR didn't have stock swindles, they just liquidateed 10's of millions. Not to let Kenny Lay and the rest of them off the hook: They deserve to go to jail for fraud, no question about it. In any case, one advantage of our "system" is that it allows for us to take care of ourselves. We let the government take over everything and we'd then be totally dependent on it: It would be going from the frying pan to the fire to give the government any more power than it already has.
