Outsourcing booms American Micro Device starts $5 Million BPO in Chip design from India

AMD joined the India business process outsourcing bandwagon. The Chip manufacturer went bullish on India BPO.

According to PTI, Chip manufacturing company AMD India Ltd is planning to set up a design centre in Bangalore and will invest $ 5 million in three years for the purpose.

"The proposed engineering centre will focus on designing microprocessors and we will invest over USD five million in three years," AMD India Ltd President Ajay M Marathe told reporters here today on the sidelines of the launch of multi-core processors for servers.

Marathe said the company has already started hiring software professionals for the engineering centre, which would continue till mid-June 2006.

"The Bangalore centre will be have substantial number of software engineers. Moreover, we will increase headcount every year as the centre will be concentrating on designing high-end microprocessors for the IT industry," he said.

He said the New York Stock Exchange-listed parent company AMD has selected India as one of its key market and AMD India had a presence in over 20 cities in the country.

AMD India has launched 64-BIT, dual-core server and workstation solutions with multi-tasking computing experience for enterprise users.

"This multi-core processors will enhance the performance and memory capacity of the servers and workstations. The in-built technology of multi-core processors will reduce heat coming out from servers," he said.
