Art, I've been surprised at the reaction to your post. Frankly, I think the big concern is what you mention in this sidebar. Is there anything to do about this collection of data? One option is to provide only paper resumes, since it is unlikely that firms take the time to OCR paper resumes. But that is often shooting yourself in the foot, since so many require electronic form. Any other approaches to keeping your resume out of the eternal, all-consuming database?

Good info. It seems that most of the posters so far are objecting to those who have seen their work at closest hand (former coworkers and managers) having an input to this "filtering" process. Kinda makes you wonder... It seems that competent employees would LIKE to have former coworkers having input, instead of depending on agencies who don't know the candidate, or HR staffs who pick candidates based on keyword searches of resumes. The filtering will be done; I wonder what those whining about input provided by employees would like to see as the filtering process? I suspect the answer is just to ask them if they should be hired, since no-one else is qualified to make that decision! -- Alex -- Replace "nospam" with "mail" to reply by email. Checked infrequently.
