That should mean wage increases and price increase and a much better deal for the local people. And if it doesn't work out then it means the local BUSINESS people need to look into some other kind of BUSINESS that can provide decent wages. But let's make sure we understand something here. NEW ENGLAND CRABS CAN ONLY COME FROM NEW ENGLAND. The New Englaqnd crab "business" is NOT going anywhere. It is NOT going to be outsourced to Mexico. And that means that the PRICES of LAND and the crabbing rights in New England will be adjusted downward so that wages can be paid appropriately. The price of New England crab may also need to be adjusted.
Right! Americans expect to get paid decent wages for their labor. If that means that crabs cost more then so be it. And if it means that people who want crabs have to harvest their own then that's ok too. But the crab producing land (that includes the water and the air and al the other NATURAL stuff (and the crabs)) are not going to run away to Central America. If the crab eaters decide to opt for Alaskan crab then the land value in New England will decrease until it is again profitable to pay people to harvest crabs. More correctly: If it costs me nothing other than my own labor and my own capital (nets, traps, boats, oe whatever) to harvest crabs then I will probably be able to earn a decent living by doing this crabbing. And if not then I will do something else and buy crabs from somewhere else. There is simply no absoult law of economics that says businesses should be kept in business by screwing the actual producers. That supposed law is an article of faith on the part of Neocon Republicans, and it is total bullpoo.

This is total crapola. The price of crabs will rise to cover the cost of using American labor, or the entire business should move to some other crab harvesting location. New England crabs may be too expensive and we will need to get our crabs from Dundgeness Washington or Alaska or some other place. If the crabbing BUSINESS is supplying no good income to the people who harvest the crabs then to hell with the crabbing BUSINESS.
And the price should be even higher. Or the cost of crab rights or land rights should go way down. -- see "economic rent".
This is probably a lie, but it does not matter to people strugglig to make a living. They don't eat crab. And if they are barely surviving because of the depressed wages resulting from bringing in Mexican robots then they will be much better off.
