I read somewhere (some analysis from an investment bank) that in the past year the probability of the world's economy crash was around 15%. However, this year the probability rose to 25%.
Recently I finished reading a book about the space race of the USSR and of the USA in the 1950-70s. The USA imported the German von Braun (who was one of the Nazi "managers") who developed the rocket which brought Americans to the Moon. It was said that they could not catch with Russians because he had lots of setbacks and unsuccesses. The rocket engine just did not perform or exploded. And he had all the money at his fingertips. This was described in detail. At the same time, the Russians were very constricted in their funds. The money were evenly spread between the two or more competing projects. So that Korolev did not really had enough of money for the project. Still, his team was able to develop the working engine. Are the Russian engineers really engineering geniuses and the working envrionment was really stimulating and productively conductive ?? I cannot believe from what I know (ehr, knew) about the Russian-Soviet science of the 1970-80-90s.
