Do you think that it might not be greed as much as might be because of the spiraling number of those now...

As my convenience store owning friend likes to say, "Wal-mart employs the otherwise unemployable." He's had to let a few people go who were bad workers, and no matter how much effort he put into them, they just weren't getting it. Anyway, these people found jobs at Wal-mart. In that atmosphere, under a corporate training structure, and having more focused jobs (working in the minimart, one has to be pretty dynamic and mulbreastasking, and dealing with the public... his is a rather busy business). He's checked up on them, and they seem to be doing well.

Spot-on. Other than yard work, my first real job was washing dishes. I was paid minimum wage with no benefits, So what? I was a dishwasher. Unbelievably, we hired high school kids for the tourist season for the same job, and some people couldn't hack the simple task of busing tables and washing dishes. I was a high school kid, too... There are a lot of bad workers out there; we certainly did not have time to traing them, so society should thank the Wal-marts of the world for finding a productive place for such people, not only to work, but also to advance and gain experience.
