What did Kamal say What did I say...was: Truth and Consequences of Offshoring 4058
This argument seems to be going back and forth. this is how i see it: The US government cannot...

Well, let me expand on that. It seems that in the USA (and maybe a lot of other places in the world) there is a growing materialism, egoism (particularly with the small wealthy-powerful population) and all that "Enronism-Andersenism" which is also getting worse. If there is any hope in the future, then maybe it may come if the pendulum swings back. Recall that decades ago we had a serious civil rights movement. I had mixed feelings about many details and I still do. Buuuut, if the right ideas congeal (yeah, yeah, I'm tooting the "optimist" horn, now, maybe futile, too) and some "formula" can be developed and laws (and law enforcment) put on the books, then there might be some kind of protection (without being protectionIST) for that social contract. I hardly think it is in the interest of selfish corporations to be so selfish that they end up destroying their own buyer market by shutting off the valve that feeds money into the employees who then become buyers. Of course, the pessimistic view is that, yes, all these executives are on a train headed for the destination of "thoughtfulness extinction."

And, I'm now about half-way through Jared Diamond's "Collapse." I'll give views when I'm finished (I have already read his "Guns, Germs, and Steel" and saw the 3 part TV show they did with the same breastle it was pretty good, too, but the book was better).
