There is nothing I can think of that would indicate that India could produce as good of an engineer as anyone. Which leads me to extrapolate further to say there is nothing I can think of that would indicate that China, Russia, etc., could produce as good of an engineer as India. Engineers built bridges, water systems, sewer systems, buildings, pyramids, lighthouses 2,000-3,000 years ago and scientists today still can't figure out how it was done, but all these things were done outside of India.

The article in Business Week, a coupe of months ago, talking about Intel having hired 500 Russians and planning to hire 500 more by the end of this year indicated quite unequivocally that Intel was very satisfied with what it is getting from The Evil Empire. Russia-USSR, historically, was the first to launch a space satellite and they did it under circumstances no one in the world would bet they could. Credit should be given, and the accomplishment should be recognized.

And, why is that? Because Indians are 'better' than US people? Or, because they can be hired for a nickle?

Articles I read indicate that there are other 3rd world countries with smart people who will work cheap. If India has higher inflation, and some other 3rd world country can do the work cheaper, Blore will become a dead ghost town overnight. This has already happened in the textile manufacturing business in centers from Madagascar to SE Asia.

If you only need a small area and a small group of bright people, then -- be careful what you predict -- those offices can be all packed up, shipped out overnight, and set up in another country.

I will present the notion that in no 3rd world country will you get the services (govt or private) that come with the western world (US & Europe & Japan) and the standard of living and all of its accoutrements. The evil vulture capitalist executives, of course, want it all for themselves and seek, as they always have, to subjugate underlings to a life of groveling.

At the time of its creation, the possibility of offshoring was very low and thus the situation did not require such laws. Today, ...what do we have? The arguments of economists and the spreadsheets of accountants telling us all this crap is good for people in the USA.

There is, already, quite a lot of anti-CEO sentiment in the media, including the Wall Street Journal, and it will be a matter of time before we see how many of the fraudsters end up in jail for their crimes and whether some other way of deflating their balloons can be invented by those who are creative with the idea of "the pen is mightier than the sword."

The war is not over, but I am against it. History says we will lose the war. As of yesterday, an article in Barron's said that oil production in Iraq is down, sabotage of oil lines, pumps-wells, etc. is up. Propaganda may be used to create the illusion that dubya is winning. Just like Viet Nam? We will see.

The war is a small part of the budget (what does it cost to have 100,000 troops who will come home someday) compared to ten million jobs going, permanently, to the BRICs.
