Saudi Arabia did not, nor probably will not, pose a threat using WMD's. At the time (please don't start harping about the no WMD's) the intelligence reports indicated there were WMD's either there or in development. SH was shown to have no reluctance to use them in the past. We decided (without double-checking) that this cannot be allowed. The fact that the intelligence community fully convinced, not only Bush, his cabinet, the senate (Dems too), the house (Dems too), England, and a number of other countries that there were, in fact, WMD's there. SH didn't help by continuously kicking out the inspectors and looking real spooky about the whole thing.

Were the inspectors right? It looks like it. Could we take that chance? No. So the administration erred on the side of pre-emption; and because SH was already in violation of UN res.'s for over a decade, we took him out. The result? One less despot to deal with later.

I have no doubt that left alone, SH would eventually become a real pain in the butt. So now we have a large presence in the middle east. Right in the misdt of a lot of pooheads. Also not a bad location in case other things errupt.

Hindsight is a cop-out to the situation at the time; however, why do you think Syria (really) left Lebanon? Also bear in mind that all of the attacks and plantings occurred when Klintoon was in. So I doubt we can provoke them much more than what they were doing prior to 9-11.

You can say what you want about Iraq not being right, but when was the last time (other than 9-11) that a person attack or planting has occurred here?
