Zogby poll: Americans fed up on illegal aliens Majority against Bush plan for workers... 107On Fri, 13 May 2005 03:12:44 GMT, pyotr filipivich It will never come back. It may evolve, but it will never come back. In the 1950s, there were few other countries producing "durable goods" of the quality and type that the US was. We were the sole surviving manufacturing power on the planet after WW2. We Built the infrastructure for most of the nations, we responded to the developing Cold War and the space race. The Cold War is over, we have many nations in compebreastion that can make Stuff just as good, for less money, and the space race no longer exists. Devaluing the dollar on a global scale is not all bad. It doesnt change the prices of domestically produced goods and services inside our own country. It makes imported items more expensive of course. But it makes exported items cheaper for those other nations to purchase, allowing them to purchase more and more goods which cranks up our own manufacturing to meet the increased demand. We are seeing a fair amount of that already. The Japanese are outsourcing TO the US for manufacturing, cars, parts, machine tools etc as an example. The fact we are using fewer employees to manufacture more goods is something that folks are going to have to deal with. Of those manufacturing jobs that have been lost...most of them are never coming back. The employees have been replaced by robot and faster more versitile machines. Just like the buggy whip makers and the hand weavers which set off the Luddites in rebellion against mechanized textile industry. Im sure you have... On the other hand...technology is being developed that will cause goods to be manufactured that we havent even heard of yet. So if an employee grows, gets smarter and better educated, he.she can find a job. The big loser will be the Unions and their members. When a factory is all machines run by a couple well paid operators..who is the Union grifters going to try to unionize? Unions specialize in Labor..when there is less and less Labor..shrug. They are doomed. Then there is another aspect that few think about...send labor. Its not needed that much any more in many cases. A semi-send button pusher who can barely write his-her own name is now producing far more high precision parts than a room full of master machinists could 20 yrs ago. A single computer programmer writes the programs for 20 machines, loads them, a set up guy sets up the tools in the machine..and a turd worlder pushes the button for barely over minimum wage. We may indeed have an increase in manufacturing..bu this does NOT mean more jobs of any great number. Got any idea of how many master machinists most high tech manufacturing companies have on staff these days? Zero. Zip. Nada. Bupkis. There is no need for them anymore. Dinosaurs. Fossils. Now you know how the buggy whip makes felt. Gunner Liberals - Cosmopolitan critics, men who are the friends of every country save their own. Benjamin Disraeli
