Large numbers of people end (and-or displaced) in wars.

About a year ago, I made posts (in connection with several posts by others) regarding very large number of people end in wars. I have placed these files (a35mil = 35 million end, 1200 AD, 1700 AD; a36mil = 36 million end, 760 AD)at the bottom of this post below the line of "===" marks.

The present post is made from the "Atlas of Russian History" by Martin Gilbert (Merton College, Oxford) with Arthur Banks as cartographic consultant. Dorset Press, c 1972, ISBN 0880290188, 146 pages (mostly maps), and many unnumbered pages of references and place names.

From insets on page 146 "It is estimated that the war of 1914-1917 cost nearly 2,000,000 Russian lives. In the war of 1941-1945 over 7,500,000 Russian soldiers and 3,000,000 Russian civilians were end."

Insets on page 130 read civilian war dead as over 13 million (6 mil Jews, 3 mil Russians, 1.2 mil Yugoslavs, 1 mil Poles, and lessor numbers of nine other nationals, and millitary war dead as over 13 mil (7.5 mil Russians, 3.5 mil Germans, 1-4 mil Americans, and the rest among 10-11 other nationals). Looks like a grand total of 26 million for WWII.

Insets on page 132, read "Between 1939 and 1946 an unprecidented number of people living between the Baltic and the Black Sea were uprooted from their homes. Over 20 million people were forced by fear, or by compulsion, to leave their homes, and to seek new, and mostly permanent sanctuary elsewhere" and 1.7 mil Baltic peoples and Poles deported to Siberia after Soviet annexations, 3-4 mil Germans transfered westward, 9 mil Russians, Poles, Ukranians and Jews fleeing eastward from the German armies in 1941, 1.8 mil Rus, Balts, and Ukrs took advantage of German occupation to flee westward, 1-2 mil Germans, Poles, Hungarians, Bulgars, and Rumanians deported to Siberia after Soviet liberation of Eastern Europe, and 7 mil Germans fleeing from their homes as the Soviet Army advanced '44-'45.

Not counting any other killings that went on before or after WWII in the Soviet Union. Not counting the US Civil War in 19th century, Japan's attacks on China and Japan in the 1920s +--, or other wars in the 20th century.

This was the beginning of one of the bitterest and most prolonged wars of conquest in history. "...the series of revolts of which the most famous and most damaging was the Taiping rebellion of 1850-65. The Manchus, against most expectations, succeeded in suppressing these rebellions. The cost has never been accurately determined--figures of the order of 25 million are hazarded--but was certainly sufficiently large to put a noticeable kink in the population graph."

"The Bolshevik Revolution occurred in the middle of a period of war and disaster that temporarily brought the Russian population juggernaut to a halt. Even so, the total effect of the 2 million war dead, 14 million other 'excess' rests...2 million emigrants....
