Nope, just trying to determine if you were talking about developing a system or maintaining a system. A lot of that involves commercial trade secrets which they...

Running a bank does not require IT skills. It requires accounting and Debt Management skills. Running a website requires some IT skill, although running it (if properly designed) requires far less IT skill than designing it. Designing a website correctly requires marketing skills, not necessarily IT skills; especially with all the WYSIWYG tools available. As for RDBMS, I just performed a quick search for "DBA" on Monster. There are thousands of positions available currently in the U.S.; there are nearly 400 within 200 miles of New York City. "Database Developer" pops up with nearly 600 positions available within 200 miles of NYC. I clicked on one and guess what? It's for a bank.

"Programmer" pops up with almost 800 hits near NYC.

Very few IT jobs tend to tax your abilities to "the fullest extent", buttuming you know what you're doing to begin with.

As I said, this is my personal experience only; which is why I qualified it. There are many posters here bringing their unsupported anecdotal evidence to the table without providing facts, and for the most part they don't even qualify it; they simply state it as fact and refuse to support their claims with data. That is the point.

How much of that is via MNC accounting, designed to circumvent U.S. taxes? BTW, we've exported over $170B to Iraq to date, and they haven't churned out so much as one line of code. If that doesn't put your $20B in perspective, then how about 0.16 % of U.S. GDP (as of 1st quarter)?
