the myth of American supremacyis this a sarcastic message? the myth of American supremacy 4470 Nope, just trying to determine if you were talking about developing a system or maintaining a system. A lot of that involves commercial trade secrets... I am talking about developing banking applications, like mortgage systems, using a relational databases like DB2 or Oracle, with java etc. These are the jobs which are outsourced the most. Or running Fidelity Mutual Fund system. I think they have outsourced to their own branch in Gurgaon, near Delhi.I knew this because the DBA there use to take part in the mailing list I use to subscribe.
All true, but IMO it is still not the same like developing a product like Windows Longhorn (the operating system) or Oracle 11 database, the database engine itself. While I see projects like mortgage system being outsourced 100% to india, we are only seeing small to medium % of Oracle RDBMS engine-Windows Longhorn outsourced to india. I think US is still ahead in that space. Hmm interesting. I actually tend to agree with you about the numbers, despite reading that 5 more million IT jobs will be moving to India in next 5 yrs. 5 Million IT jobs seems to be on the high side It is here India is secured. Much as that rascal "recruiters are scum" would like to believe, and also others, US companies are not outsourcing to India bcos of cheap price alone. Yes we are cheaper than americans in US ( bcos 1USD = 43INR), but we are also good. To put it in other words, India offers a right mix of quality and cost effectiveness. India is not the only English speaking country. Countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh are also there. yet they are far from being in the position of offering outsourcing services in IT industry. So. even if cheaper countries exists than india, US companies will think 100 times beforer migrating out of India to another country. After all we are talking about knowledge based system, not pencil making companies.
