But doctored results are exciting!

With religion, no one is actually trying to deceive or fool you, since a religious person usually does belive in what they preach. But I agree that science can be very exciting when you're eagerly awaiting the results of an experiment to know whether or not you've made a breakthrough. That anticipation and venturing into the unknown can make things interesting.

But whether science is more or less interesting than programming I think is very situtational and depends very much on the personality of the individual doing the work. There's no black and white here, everyone has their own opinions and personalities, and for many people science probably is more exciting for them than programming.

Personally, I cannot see myself doing anything other than engineering. I was born to be an engineer, it courses through my veins. Had I found biology or chemistry more exciting than computer science or calculus, I would certainly not have made the choices that I have made which have shaped my career into what it is. I enjoy designing systems and building them, and I think doing that can be a very rewarding experience for many people. To me, being a laboratory technician or chemical engineer simply do not fit with my own definition of who I am or what I enjoy doing.
