First let me say that I have been working on computers for years, I do... Apple at least uses the Hypertransport bus. The point is that Intel is till using all the old architecture from the 32 bit world... Perhaps if you would objectively compare what is now the standard developed by AMD (On die memory controller, Direct connect Architecture, Hypertransport Bus), compared to what Intel offers (Northbridge I-O instead of on-die memory controller), no DCA, and hyperthreading, which has never been properly implemented. Perhaps that is why Microsoft switched to AMD processors in the Irvine and Redmond campuses, where the teams that are developing Windows Vista work.

You do not specify whether the computer is to be a desktop or laptop. Dell uses only Intel processors in their systems,. and one year from now you will regret buying anything based on an Intel processor. The consumer market of the computer industry is transitioning to new 64 bit hardware-software. AMD has pioneered the new architecture and it is now the standard. Intel has bee lagging farther and farther behind. In September and October of this year, AMD outsold Intel in the consumer market. AMD is making better processors and offering computers with significantly more "bang for the buck". While Dell does sell AMD processors in a box on their website, they do not You would be better served by buying *ANY* other brand that offers AMD64 technology. Bobby
