OK,

I can't comment on your setup specifically, but I can provide some of my personal experiences with S-Vid. I use a desktop PC with an ATI video card...

Just tested on my Inspiron 600m (I'm running media center too).

Step 1: make sure your not extending the desktop onto TV (see above posts) You can tell because when you're not you will see the same image on the TV as the notebook screen (ie all the icons will be there, not just the wallpaper)

Step 2: Go into displays manager and turn off the lcd screen. For ATI: other cards.

Step 3: Start media center and watch your movies.

Sorry, I didn't post this before, but my desktop can run both screens at once and I had never tried it on my laptop. (On my laptop I always just turn the LCD off when using it with a TV so the video card doesn't have to work as hard -- I'd never tried it with both screens on!). I just did this with the 600m and can confirm that you will get a black screen on both the LCD *and* the TV when media center is playing if you have both the lcd and the TV on.

Note that if you are running an ATI card, you can set up hot keys to switch to different display modes to make it faster when switching back and forth.

Also a word of caution - make sure you can see the desktop on the TV before turning off the LCD, otherwise you may be left with no displays on and unable to see the menus you need to use to turn one on.

-Mike
