DNS resolution failuresThank you all for the suggestions -you are appreciated!!! My 8200 doesn't have an internal NIC (they must have had 2 mobo variants) I've tried reversing the computers on router ports as well as swapping out NIC cards and even reinstalling windows My second computer on the router never has trouble. Had the cable company out as well -no problem there. I can ping IP numeric addresses such as 216.109.118.74 , but not the URL (www.yahoo.com) when the problem occurs. Of note, the other computer on the router can always connect. I've tried to repair the winsock manually using the following instructions: 1) Click Start, click Run and type CMD and click OK. 2) At the command prompt type: netsh winsock reset catalog (and press Enter) 3) At the command prompt type: Exit (and press Enter)
as well as using utilities -no benefit.
What did work is removing, rebooting, then reinstalling: Local area connection Client for Microsoft networks Firmware update, add'l info HillBillyBuddhist Here's the skinny from Dell: Drivers & Downloads You Are Searching For Change Devices Philips DVD8631 HH 16X DVD+--RW Firmware Release... Local area connection File & print sharing QoS packet scheduler Internet protocol
If is uninstall and reinstall without rebooting, it will not work.
I'm don't know enough to interpret this observation
