Dell monitorsW This is a repost of what I just put on slickdeals.net: An important thing to note is the 2005FPW DOES NOT SUPPORT HDCP. HDCP is an end-to-end high definition copy protection scheme; by end-to-end I mean the source of the signal (computer, HD-DVD player, etc.) and the receiver (in most cases a monitor) must be equipped with special hardware in order to use the signal. Dell Garbage and Infinite Install Loop Well I got the E1505 today. It was loaded with extra garbage. I deleted the virus protection and everything else that I don't need, and there were tons of registry entries left over. When... This is especially important in the case of monitors because Windows Vista is reportedly incorporating HDCP into the OS. Although they claim that having a non-HDCP monitor won't prevent you from using the OS, there's a chance that some of the content will not be accessable to you (eg. certain movies-games-etc. won't be viewable at their full resolutions). The 2007FPW does support HDCP, so for those considering using this monitor it's something to keep in mind. With that said, the 2005FPW is still a great monitor; I use for my PC, my XBox, and even as a TV in my room. I purchased it last summer and haven't had any problems with it; also I didn't have any backlight issues or dead pixels. For those unaware, the 2005FPW is the same LCD as the Apple 20" Cinema Display except the Dell uses a brighter backlight; for a good review check this out: Is that $423 price the one before or after taxes, because according to the thread I posted in, the 2005FPW is going for $363 (which is about what I paid for it last summer; it's an excellent monitor -- well worth it).
