OK, that's fine, but back to my question,

Regardless of which sound card you have, in the specs for that sound card, what are the requirements for the microphone input portion. What does it say as far as microphone impedance and voltage?

On to whichever microphone you have chosen to try. what are the specs for that microphone. what is it's rated impedance and output voltage.

Now, from the actual specifications for each, does the stated output of the microphone match the specs for the mic input on the soundcard?

That's all I'm asking.

Just mentioning that the mic is made by a particular manufactirer or that the microphoe is a 'powered' mic, doesn't guaranty that the specs are correct.. What are the actual specs are for both the card and the mic.

If the spec's match, and the mic was provided by Dell, then I would say it's a Dell problem.

If the specs don't match, and yet Dell supplied the mic, then again it's a Dell issue.

However, if for some reason, the spec's don't match, and you supplied the mic, then finding a mic that has the right specs is up to you.

Big-time snip... to get the message back to a resonable size.......
