Dell versus Asus
Patrick L. Parks pure virtual function errors with XPS 5 On Thu, 28 Jul 2005 06:15:36 -0500, in alt.sys.pc-clone.dell, "S.Lewis" From the 'Customize it' for a... I've been working out pricing on several nearly identical systems, including the XPS 5 and two ASUS motherboard based systems from reputable suppliers, one local and one mail order. Here's what I found for around $1700: ASUS P5WD2 Premium motherboard Intel P4 640 at 3.2 Mhz, 2 MB cache One Gig of Corsair DDR2 667 RAM One WD 10000 ROM 74 GB hard drive One Plextor combo CD=DVD writer ATI Radeon x850 Pro video card Lian-Li aluminum case Enermax 550 watt power supply Mitsumi Floppy Drive with 7 in 1 memory card reader Retail MS Win XP Pro with CDs The Dell I'm considering is about the same price, but... The Lian-Li case is better than Dell's, and the power supply puts out more. The OS is the full retail package, not the OEM package. The ASUS motherboard seems more capable. The hard drives are the same. The CPUs are the same. The video cards seem about equivalent.
