Dimension 4600 and HP USB Printer 1687Lordoftenbroke, I have found that USB's "Plug and Play" works differently in XP than it did in W98, and maybe WinME. You need to Select "Remove Hardware Safely" and disable the driver buttigned to the USB connection. Before disconnected the printer, mouse, etc.... from it. Since during the boot-up process it appears to be looking for the connection. I found out when I moved my USB mouse from one USB connection in the back of my Dim4600, to another. Where in a W98 PC, if you switch USB, the USB would first be "found", and the drivers would be buttociated with it. button for Hidden Icons. And make that the choice for Removing Hardware is not set for "Always Hide". If you have disconnected the printer already, and "USB Root Hubs" for the one that list the printer, either disable the driver, or better yet Uninstall it, especially if you plan to move to another port on your PC.
