Great Laptop Bags I recently received 2 laptop backpack intended for different purposes and they are great -- I lucked out, but the... You will want to use the 9 cell SOMETIMES and not just let it sit unused for months. Batteries will eventually go bad whether you use them or not, but they will (obviously) go bad faster if you recycle them repeatedly. I've heard that it's best to store them maybe about half charged or so (eventually the battery will discharge if not used anyway). I expect to use my 9-cell maybe once or twice a month, when I really need the extra time. Virus, Spyware I have been getting e-mails at my "junkmail" address, maybe 4 or 5 day with a .bmp file containing all the text (not sure if that's relevant). It starts out... OT: Imaging Drive for Backup Restore Sorry to top post, but...I use True Image from Acronis. It does exactly what you need. I have used it to restore my old laptop from a backup when the old...
I knew I needed at least 1GB, so I decided just to bite the bullet and max it out and never have to fool with it again. Cost me only $150 total (NewEgg.com) and I can sell the old 512MB for something. I doubt I will need a full 2GB anytime soon, but there are times when I edit very large pictures and some extra RAM might help. Inspiron 6400 e1505 Dud For what it's worth, Dell have now responded to the problem pretty well. My initial frustration with the... I just ordered one from NewEgg.com last (USB) which will be about $11 after rebates. A few things. For one, I have wanted to pbuttword-protect shared folders over a network and I don't think XP Home-MCE can do that. XP Pro can I'm pretty sure. Also, I work on computers sometimes for people, and more than once I've encountered an ugly Microsoft invention called a Dynamic Disk. It's basically some sort of more flexible disk format that has the drawback of not being readable directly outside of the computer you used it in. Say you want to read another computer's hard drive using your laptop (with a USB enclosure) because it crashed. With a regular NTFS static disk, piece of cake. With a dynamic disk, you must import it. XP Home can't import dynamic disks. XP Pro (and Windows 2000 Pro) can. I'm not trying to advocate others to get XP Pro - just trying to say why I would want it. Here's another nit: my old Toshiba would show the "power" light as long as the computer was plugged into AC power, even if the computer was turned off. I presume this is just a Dell style thing, but if I have AC power plugged into my Dell laptop, if the battery is fully charged and the computer is off, there are NO indicator lights on. So by casual glance, I can't tell whether the laptop is plugged in and the battery is fully charged or I forgot to plug it in and the battery might need to be charged (or the cord isn't plugged in right or whatever). Never any confusion with my Toshiba about this. I wish my Dell did it the same way.
