Final resolution: Upgrading a Dell Dimension 2400
says... PCI Express, while it would be nice, is not something that's needed except on Gaming machines. If I can save them $50 or more by not getting it, then it's all the more they can buy of other things. These systems run a windows based application that processes data from about 20 tables in a SQL database, has lots of on-screen manipulation of data, and they also do a lot of MS Office. PCI Express isn't going to gain them anything. If I was going to buy another Dell it would be one of the Workstation clbutt machines. Best way to upgrade Dell 4100 memory G'day mates, My old Dell 4100 still has its basic 128 MB memory as bought. I'm thinking of adding a 256 MB module. Are there any "gotchas" in doing this? Specifically, is there any... As I said before, I didn't spec these machines out, never would have got them if I had been involved. I've seen several of the 2400 used in personal solutions and thought they were slow for home user machines too. -- remove 999 in order to email me
