Fresh installing Dell 9100... do I need RAID stuff 1158DNS resolution failures Thank you all for the suggestions -you are appreciated!!! My 8200 doesn't have an internal NIC (they must have had 2 mobo variants) I've tried reversing the computers on router ports as well... I've been at service calls where Dell's RAID BIOS won't boot to the mirrored RAID-1 drive. It gives several blue screen errors and refuses to boot with only one working RAID disk. This happened in an XPS (one of the later models...almost positive either a Gen4 or Gen5). Of course, it could've been because Dell sent Maxtors twice in a row, once in June and then in October. The first set of 250GB Maxtors failed as a RAID-0, meaning one drive failed so both were unrecoverable. Therefore when I arrived to replace the HD's, the EU created the new RAID as RAID-1. This was last June. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, and the same customer yet again had hard drive problems. The RAID BIOS refused to allow booting of the redundant RAID-1 disk to WinXP and demanded that the HD be downgraded to a non-raid disk. To be honest I think the BIOS might've been fine, since I actually eye-witnessed the second drive crash and fail while on the service call (countless drive sector failures on WinXP chkdsk on bootup, then blue screen, then died...no boot device available on restart). Lately Dell has learned that Maxtors aren't inexpensive...they're CHEAP. Maxtors die in record numbers, and thankfully with most service calls I'm replacing them with either Western Digitals or Seagates. With the above service call I demanded the XPS phone tech (located in Texas, name with either Heath or Keith) send me a pair of WD's or SG's for the above service call and he refused (I had to go out there twice because the first time they only sent me a hard drive CABLE, not the hard drives...wonderful parts distribution network, too not RAID-1, or else Dell won't support it. Yet another happy customer experience :P Dell will probably be expecting an XPS Gen5 in the mail and a demand for a full refund. Dan Is it OK to clone dell operating system parbreastion We do it all the time. We use the following process: Set up the image =========== 1) Create a Ghost...
