HP 6250cxi scanner on a DellPat, The 6250cxi is a bit of an oddball scanner, because it has both SCSI and USB interfaces. With Win 98SE, USB was still in its infancy. I succeeded in installing a 6250cxi for a client with either interface on Win 98SE systems. To use it with a more modern operating system, I would suggest using USB due to ease of use and installation. USB also offers the advantage of an interface common with many other HP scanners, whereas SCSI seems to have fallen out of favor except for some very high-end expensive scanners. If you do decide to use the SCSI interface, an Adaptec 2900-series SCSI host adapter with narrow 50-pin or 25-pin external connector is far and away the best choice with any version of Windows. For software, let me suggest either PrecisionScan Pro version 2.03 (file name sj675en.exe ) or 1.02 (sj673en.exe ). You might also try the download for the ScanJet 7400c, sj677en.exe ). I wish I had kept notes as to what works with the 6250cxi under either Win 2000 or XP, but I did not. It's worth trying one of the above before dumping the scanner completely...
