Inspiron Battery

Hello-

I have a five year old Inspiron 4000. The battery has not held a charge for the last three years. I just started using this laptop again and wish to replace the battery. It is not worth spending much on this old machine but I see several Ebay sellers that appear to be reputable (good feedback) selling new imported batteries for about $45 plus shipping.

These newer batteries have about 10% greater capacity (mah) than the original that I have.

My question is :

SATA Primary Drive 0 not found, primary drive 1 not found, no DVD found Dell
I suppose this goes under the heading "No good deed goes unpunished." My friend told me her...

1) Do I need to flash to a new BIOS to use one of these new batteries? One seller even provides a bios disc with the battery.

2) Is it possible that updating the BIOS will solve my problem and I do not need a new battery at all. (I doubt this)

I am hesitant to mess with the BIOS since the laptop works well and I fear causing difficulties.

When battery is charged, pushing the button on the case causes all five LEDS to light. If you hold it down it then flashes four LEDS and then all go out. When fully charged, the battery lasts about 20 minutes before becoming discharged.

Thanks for any input! Jim Block
