Hi, my experiences are different than Nicholas'. As a coder, I needed something larger than XGA to be effective.

It depends on what you want to use your computer for. Keep in mind though that I am spoiled by my desktop setup: a 24" widescreen, ~1900 x 1200 AND a 21" 1600 x 1200.

I currently have a 14" Inspiron 630m. About a month ago I sold my 12" Inspiron 700m...

If I were to go 14" as my only PC, I would get the SXGA (or whatever Nicholas said). I had that on my 600m and that would be more of a desktop replacment for me.

If you are just going to take notes, casually browse the web, and answer e-mails, then the smaller screen is OK. That's why I have the smaller screen on my 630m laptop.

I have had laptops in all of these resolutions, so my experiences might be of some value.
