another word of caution... pc133 sodimm (laptop) type memory is quite expensive. even so on the secondary market as it is no longer made and so many of these older laptops can only accept 256mb type pc133 sodimms... they sell for about $75 each... so two for $150, plus the laptop for $75, plus a battery for $100 (more likely $150) puts you up to $325. and remember you only have a 10gb hard disk so you can just about forget about installing windows xp and anything else. a fresh copy of xp sp1 installed and then the hard drive takes up about 7.5gb. it bearely leaves enough room for ms office or anything else. if you reload the machine with windows 2000 you will be fine with the disk and memory space otherwise i see you quickly sliding down the upgrade slope and spending more on a out of warranty machine than it is worth. fwiw for sake of comparison today i bought a inspiron 2200 with xp home, 256mb, 40gb, cdrw-dvd, integrated wireless, free inkjet printer, and one year warranty for $452 after $100 mail in rebate. that deal has expired but it is an example of how cheap things can be new.

Make sure you check out the abilities to expand both systems. I have a E510 that I bought for everyday office type stuff and I'm tickled to rest with it...
