When you install Spybot Search and Destroy, don't pick the option to activate what is called the Tea Timer. It is really unnecessary and can slow things down overall. If you have already installed Spybot and you did activate Tea Timer when you installed it, you can go to the Spybot toolbar and then Mode-Advanced-Resident and uncheck the Tea Timer "protection of overall system settings" option. Don't bother the other setting, it has to do with blocking bad Internet Explorer addresses. Although you should be ashamed if you are using IE anyway.

Opera browser is by far the fastest Windows based browser. Specifically designed for Windows, whereas Firefox started out being designed just for Linux based systems and still runs best on Linux. Opera runs loops around Firefox, the Firefox aficionado's hate for anyone to say that though, but they know it is true. Take a look at this for proof:

Or you could try it if you don't already have it, you will immediately feel the difference between it and Firefox. And the security is just as good in Opera as in Firefox also. Opera has better CSS compatibility. Why? Because 3 or 4 people who created CSS actually work for Opera. The main one being HŒKON WIUM LIE. Reference here:

BACK TO SPYBOT

You have to take several steps to get any benefit out of Spybot.

1st: you want to be on the main page that opens when you first open Spybot and click on the UPDATE tab. It will then search for updates.

2nd: If any updates are found, checkmark them.

3rd: Then go back to the top of the page and click DOWNLOAD UPDATES. Sometimes this will fail, don't be discouraged, just try again using a different server. Millions upon millions of people updating at the same time can cause things like this to happen.

4th: After you have successfully downloaded your updates, go back to the left-hand side of the page and click on immunize. In the new screen that opens, click on immunize once again and you are done.

This is how to manually update Spybot and protect your computer. And, of course, when you are done if you want to you will see how to go ahead and do a scan of your system from the main page.
