First of all, I don't use this program, but AFAIK, it's legitimate.

Second, no single Spyware-Malware program will suffice. You need multiple layers of protection.

Third, the programs talked about a lot (Ad Aware, Spybot S&D, Hijack This) are free (or have free versions), but require that you regularly update the signatures and scan the machines. I support a non-profit Hospice in upstate NY and my experience is that virtually all users (including myself) do not keep these programs up to date or scan regularly. They also are only useful *after* the problem is present on the computer.

My recommendation to folks is to get Spy Sweeper from WebRoot. It's a comprehensive program that not only sweeps for these programs, it prevents them from getting installed in the first place. It will automatically check for updates to signatures as well as the program itself. They update very frequently. It is a subscription service. List is, I believe about $30. You can buy it direct from WebRoot and get a discount for multiple years. Check out the offers on sites like Buy.com and you can get it for a lot less... It's top rated by just about everyone.

Don;t let me discourage you from getting free scanners like Ad Aware and SpyBot S&D. Like I said, currently there is no program that will protect you from every threat out there.....
