Opinion: Dell currently makes the best notebooks 1670Clark, Don't be swayed about the recent bad stuff. Dell makes excellent products, I have got four Dell laptops in my home one is even an old cpx with a pentium II that I purchased new. It still works so well that I don't have the heart to toss it. There is no question that you get the more computing power for the money in a Dell computer. I use the laptop mainly for word processing and database applications and some of my file are in the gigabit size. What I really like is the long battery power. I use my laptop in remote locations without power and I am getting over 5-6 hours off of both the main battery and a module battery that slips into the cd space. My recent purchase is a Inspiron 600m. The only problem I seem to be having and I am trying to get it fixed is that the USB ports toggle off when I connect to an external USB harddrive and power the USB drive from the USB port. Dell site has a fix directly related to the problem, but I cannot get their patch to work. The problem is actually caused by Microsoft's Service pack 2. So it is an extremely unusual problem. I have used hps, tobshibas, compacts, and even a locally built laptop and I'll tell you that the Dell product is the best of them all. Thats why I have four of them.
