Treesize Pro used to be freeware many versions ago.

They now have the full version that sells for around $50, but you can download a evaluation copy here..

They now aparrently have a scaled down freeware version but I'm not sure if that version will run on a server.

Treesize Pro is jsut the one I've used for years, I'm sure there are many more programs out there today that will do the same thing.

As for the Trash progarm they use, It's always difficult to continue to impliment old software on new platforms these days, but I understand completely their reasons for wanting to stick with what they have rather than have the existing program re-coded, or find a modern-day replacement.

In these cases, sometimes in makes more sense to impliment a seperate server to handle the Trash software. That way, you can choose whatever Server platform and OS that is most compatible with the Trash program.

Sometimes it even makes sense to revert to running something like Windows NT4 Server to be a bit more compatable with old custom programs. The only problem with Server NT4 these days, is finding hardware to run it on. A new Server may not be able to run NT anymore due to lack of drivers, etc, but you should probably be able to pick up an older Server box somewhere to run NT on.

These people have been in business for how long without any kind of backup system in place??

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that backing up what they have is THE most important concern right now. Get the data-systems backed up, THEN concentrate on finding a solution to the performance issues.

You definately don't have to tell me how great the concern is for backups. That is actually the main issue I was working...

Was the OS parbreastion limited to only 4gig because of some sort of compatability isses with the Trash software? Since it appears they're running Server 2000, there's no more 4gig limit on the boot parbreastion.

Unfortunately going 'backwards' to a workgroup vs a domain is pretty much not going to happen. Not that I wouldn't do it if it was asked...
