Yes. It will prompt you when you open it the first time. You can also leave IE as the default browser and still use Firefox. Firefox will also prompt you about importing your IE settings-favorites, home page,etc. during the setup-installation. Importing does not affect your IE settings in any way.

Yes. The companion e-mailer to Firefox is Mozilla Thunderbird, and it's downloaded and installed separately, or at least can be. There's no toolbar button for mail in Firefox where you can launch e-mail, so you'll have to launch OE from the desktop, quicklaunch, or from the start-programs menu.

Most all will. Some pages may "break" using Firefox, but most are fine (Heck, some "break" with IE). Firefox can't be used to run Windows Update. You'll also run into other rare pages where it would appear that microsoft is intentionally attempting to break or shut out Firefox. It's a minor annoyance rather than a problem, imo.
