Having 2GB vs 1GB of RAM may be of some current benefit to you, at least in terms of your gaming. Here is some food for thought... ignore the conclusions and recommendations until you understand the specific tests-charts because some of the RAM sucking application usage doesn't seem to apply to you...
The benefits of having more RAM will increase over time... after you upgrade to Vista and as newer games come out. It might be nice to have 2GB in 2 slots right out of the gate. Then again, it will probably you describe. A key question would be at what resolution will you be gaming and at what quality level. Both will impact CPU requirements, RAM requirements, and most importantly... video card requirements Before you alot the rest of your money to CPU or RAM upgrades you should be sure to allocate enough for a suitably powerfull graphics card. Theoretically, you should be able to upgrade the 9200's processor to another Conroe in the same TDP range down the road for they should use the same heatsink. In which case all three components could be improved on an as needed basis.
