Wireless option for Labreastude C610 83
The C610 and the C640 have the same arrangements in their guts. I started out, in my C640, with a Dell TrueMobile 1450 card that I got off Greed-bay. It ran about $30 or so with shipping, and the nice thing about it is that it covers all three wireless standards (802.11a, b, and g, all in one card), unlike the Intel card that's been recommended to you. Later on, I moved up to a Senao high-power multi-standard card. Much better performance, but its antenna connectors are positioned very differently from the Dell or Intel cards. In order to make good use of the Senao card, you would need to do as I did, and either buy or build (I chose to build) a tiny RF extension cable. Be warned that going for the 'build' option requires considerable skill, professional-grade soldering equipment, a thermal wire stripper, an illuminated magnifier, much patience, and the manual dexterity of a surgeon. Having worked in electronics for 27 or so years, none of the above was a problem for me, but that's me... Celeron M question and, to add one further on to that, the university my son is going to = next year has requested (and I don't know how strong that request is = until I call) that they put a... If you don't feel the need for high-power, it is my view that the Dell TrueMobile card will perform better than the Intel. Dell's card is based on the well-known Broadcom chipset, which got better press than Intel's product in the trade journals I've read. Celeron M question all we've read is that the computers have to have their own AV program = on there, a firewall, they haven't been specific as to what OS it has to = be... The only thing I don't like about the Senao is that its user interface, software-wise, really sucks... Happy hunting. -- Dr. Anton T. Squeegee, Director, Dutch Surrealist Plumbing Insbreastute.
