(qua: in the capacity or character of -- hmm, perhaps I should have used 'per se', instead)

Not really. Copy Linux kernel to floppy (if it fits), stick it in machine face and reboot.

It won't do much.

Copy Linux kernel toboot sector on a empty system (after GRUB setup) and it won't do much there, either. Busybox and a few libs at least are needed to keep it company, or perhaps a distro such as DamnSmallLinux. I'd have to look.

It's the grit in the pearl.

Not sure. I'd have to defer to someone more knowledgeable about such things.

Not sure about that, either. Of course with Linux one can easily get frustrated if one's not familiar with it. (Ditto for Windows.)

That is a desktop crash, for the most part (or a desktop restart, which is just as bad). It's almost as disruptive as a system crash though the server part of Linux -- apache, ntpd, etc. -- will be largely unaffected.

This is an issue that may deserve more study. For now, I don't know how to attach costs to aggravation except to note that it may affect #12, below.

It's worth noting that desktop setup isn't something that I've done that often -- but then again, I can't say how often it's done for others.

That would be under here, #12, or #5. Take your pick.

There are a number of issues here.

?

I'm neither fair nor balanced. I simply know, however, that what is *said* is not the same as what is *meant*, and what is *meant* is not the same as what *is*. :-)

I have my moments.
