An order of Ubuntu, and could you MepiSize that 3796 Why? Better question: Why not? It plays Ogg files just fine, MIDI files, MOD, and WAV files too. Why shouldn't their workstation distro support MP3's if it also supports other media types... Yep, unfortunately that happens way to much. What I think should be SOP is for the manufacturers who don't offer this stuff included in their distributions, for legal reasons and understandably, would be to put up a printable splash screen on the first boot that explains it all and sends the user to some website like this: which includes STEP BY STEP, EASY TO FOLLOW, instructions for making the stuff work. Yet another problem for some people, but it's really a legal thing.
That's correct. Me too. There is a LOT of interest in ogg for various reasons but in the mainstream world it is still not catching on as fast as it should although you can now get players that support ogg as well as mp3. FWIW it's similar with sites that require Windows Media Player and refuse to work with anything else. Like most people, I find another site.
Well put. That's why I say that Linux has to offer at least what Windows users already have and then some, or in the case of spyware-virus-trojans less :) For my family systems, Linux has saved me countless hours in maintenance time because Linux just runs and runs. I do have a Windows parbreastion for iTunes and stuff the kids bring home from school that just won't run with Linux. They were jumpered Master-Slave (no cable... In fact right now I am recovering from a drive failure (no more WD drives for me!!) and installing PCLinuxOS on all the machines, replacing Suse 10.x. -- flatfish+++ "Why do they call it a flatfish?"
