Well, to be honest, I haven't read either two other biographies you mention. And, yes, you're right, it is something nice that he tries to portray himself the way he feels he really is like.

However, it came across quite derogatorily: derogatory towards the reader (huh, stupid moron, bought my book, huh) and towards the fans of Linux-Linus (I don't care if you like my OS-me, get lost).

Well, okay.

However, it's not some usenet-article he quickly scribbled down. It's a book which was developed over a year (if I recall correctly). And he read it, probably, over and over. I'm pretty sure he made sure he comes across the way he wants to come across.

I tend to disagree. Many people whom I have had eMail-conversation in the past and who I then met in real life were really nice. And many people whom I though of as being huge idiots were in reality even bigger idiots. I don't think there are many exceptions, although I agree there certainly are some.
