I'm sure...but, and again, I'm totally new to Ubuntu, my experience suggests that yes, in a general environment, Ubuntu may install, but that any variation may give it problems.

That could be Debian's fault, as you suggest.

I don't like LiveCD's at all -- but I'm basically committed to using Suse, which is installed on my hard disk along with XP and I'm not really "distro shopping" -- I just wanted to diagnose a very specific application problem.

Well, if I knew that I wouldn't have suggested as much.

But I understand now, and yes, I apologize!

I should extend you the same courtesy, and I will complete a bugzilla report for my experience with the Live CD!

I just have seen far to much promotion of it without any real justification. Also it's origins ( a rich guy who adopts an African name and incorporates in the Isle of Man ) just raised a lot of red flags for me.

I'm really suspicious, because, to be honest with you -- I think the days of the 1001 Distroes are nearly over. The fight, right now, comes down to the powerhouses battling it out: Novell vs. Microsoft, Linux vs. XP.
