economics of saturation 1331 I saw a study I while back that claimed if all the buildings in London covered their roof surfaces with solar panels, they could almost completely... ... I wonder what the minimum is to run those things nowadays? I've got a P166-16M-1.3G, and it won't handle it. It had run Red Hat 4 (or was it 5?) well, along with Win98, but I wanted to use it to configure some routers that used a web interface, and the browsers under those two systems would not handle that. (I didn't investigate to see why...I'm guessing the router was using Javascript beyond what browsers of that vintage supported). I tried putting Slackware on it (that being one of the few major distros that doesn't list 128 MB as its minimum requirement). Great in text mode, but slow in X with FVWM just running simple stuff. No hope of a modern browser--it took something like 30 minutes to bring up a simple web page, and that slowness was almost all due to swapping out the wazoo. My guess was that it would have worked great in 80M, and I think your report shows that this is correct. I tracked down a place selling memory for it (there aren't many), and bought another 64M, but it doesn't work. It gets errors. I don't know if the RAM was bad, or the laptop is broken, and decided that it wasn't worth throwing more money at it to find out. -- --Tim Smith
