Actually, no they weren't.

That is so inaccurate as to be laughable, but understandable.

First of all, race is not determined by skin color in the least. There are only 5 races of human beings on the planet, and amongst any of those the skin tones can vary widely.

Secondly, of or pertaining to race is "racial", NOT "racist".

I think you are confusing "racial" and "racist".

No, that's called prejudice, or bigotry if you prefer.

Simply put, racism is the position that one particular race is inherently better-superior than any other(s) for whatever reason. Racism is a very powerful word, and not one that should be used lightly.

At first glance, it may appear that Nelson's comments are indeed racist, since they appear to attempt to say that black people are inferior workers to whites. However, if you read the whole article, he is not stating that Black people are inferior workers because of any lack on their part, but rather as a result of economical conditioning. So, it is not racist per se, but rather a stereotypical and very prejudiced mindset.

I prefer looking at slrn when I run it, seeing 253 articles, then finding 126 still...

Either way, it's highly controversial and inflammatory to say the least and he should have known to keep his big mouth shut, especially for a person in his position.
