Can't block XP SP2 from phoning home

Because if you have a company name that is simmilar to microsoft, then it is possible that you are denied that name as a web address because MS are checking then manipulating names to become their own. Domain names must be registered, sub names do not or cause so they can have as many 'go' 'goos' as they like, but when I am setting up a DNS server I must never manipulate the names entered by the user, even if they have typed something in error. As a DNS admin I don't know until after attempting the link if what they have typed is a genuine destination or not.

It would be like a browser blocking you with a message 'I didn't try to retrieve that web page because I think it is unlikely to exist'.

We could all do that, perhaps Suse browsers could change any address or search that looks like a sales site for 'microsoft' to an equivelant part of a Linux web site.

We wouldn't accept that from Linux and we Mustn't accept it from MS.

As for it being a security thing, ensuring the name isn't manipulated in a registry for example, they is nothing wrong with that, many of us in our code would fix a secure web site, not in code necessarily, but in a place that can't be reached by rogue code. MS hasn't many options on that, they would have to hard code it.

But manipulating names without letting the user know and confirm it, has to stop, it's presence is far too close to hard filtering. 'You can go to ThisWeb site, but you have to go through ThisWeb site first, where you will be sold This or we will record where you are going for marketing purposes'.

Who needs spyware on your machine if they can instead watch all your actions from outside.
