Their software has to force more restrictions on the home users. Having 10's of thousands of compromised, high powered computers with high speed connections to the net is becoming more and more dangerous. Microsoft has to become more responsible AND accountable. The vulnerabilities of their software has cost untold billions of dollars of damage in the last 10 years. This is the hidden, TRUE cost of having a monolithic OS such as Windows. Unfortunately, the EULA one agrees to when installing their product protects them from being sued. And yes, Linux has to become more user friendly for the average user. But I can see VERY rapid developments in this area - even month to month I see improvements. It needs the hardware manufacturers and dealers to become more aware and supportive. The third party software will follow rapidly. The ground work has been laid. And it is holding back real solutions to these grave problems by using it's financial clout and it's monopolistic business practices. Microsoft is intent on retaining it's stranglehold on all aspects of computing whatever the real cost is to society as a whole.
