Could someone tell me how Windows is better 13753

DFS LOL, no thanks. You'd be surprised! It is great to be able to ssh into my home computer from my laptop. Actually, nope. Just turbotax. I don't see how that's possible. In...

Well... if you're living in Matrix bullet-time it might seem snappy...

That's a nice feature of the Linux-OSS world. Being able to configure any Linux system from a totally headless, stripped down router or firewall machine, to a fully-laden multimedia desktop with 2 CPUs and a DVD burner, etc, at no additional cost, is a great benefit.

Well there you go. I'm sure if you free your mind your butt will follow and you can come up with 10 other programs or games you want.

I think Windows probably works better with your digital camera, printer-scanner, photo printer, and TV card.

What do you mean "your" rights? You have no inherent right to modify or distribute or repackage or sell someone else's intellectual property. You have no rights to use someone else's IP in a manner other than which they allow you, by terms of an agreement you willingly enter into. You have no right to examine their source code, or reverse engineer their medicine.

More hysterical shrieking. You don't have to upgrade.

This is pitifully dishonest. To mollify yourself into accepting a substandard universe of Linux apps, you have to link Windows viruses to application programs.

I'd guess you know the difference between the two, but maybe not.

DFS Your dodging the question like your in 'bullet-time'. I've tried. I've got *one* 'Windows game'. This is why Microsoft only sells one license to me--and won't get another till they can convince...

From my experience, desktop Windows wins hands down on:

Speed. Consistency. Looks. Fonts. x86 hardware support. peripheral support. app quality and selection game quality and selection

Maybe on development tools.

Plus, it's somewhat easier to use, it's plenty stable enough, and it runs MS Office.

See the hardware lists at

See the software section of

I'd guess there's more Windows apps than Linux apps by a factor of 5 or 8.

Hardware? It must be 20 or 30 to 1.

Windows loses on:

configurability cost ease of updating the OS sometimes, ease of updating-installing apps

I'm probably not the right person to judge Linux stability. I haven't used it day in and out for years. In the small amount of time I've used it the OS has never crashed on me, but several apps have locked up. Trying to exit Quantas under Knoppix 4.0 DVD always generates a sigseg fault. Konqueror under Kubuntu sigseg faulted frequently. Fedora Core 2 was a lock-up mess. In general, Linux apps are not more stable than Windows app - probably less stable.
