EU software patent law faces axe 790
On Sat, 19 Feb 2005 21:11:36 +0000, billwg What are you talking about? I said I am not a developer. Are you stupid? Most Linux users are not developers, they're users. That's what Linux is for: using. I'll let them name themselves. Eh? It *is* working. Look at Debian, which is entirely community-led. It's among the most popular distros out there, and the base of many others. Ubuntu is a Debian based project, as are the Knoppixi. Brother, who died and made *you* God? If you make a modification for your personal use, and do not intend it distibute it further, you don't have to. Read the GPL. And what do you know about *what* I'm contributing? EU software patent law faces axe 791 I don't disagree that is what open source is in general! The naked facts are that there are a very few people who have organized themselves into a project... And? That doesn't mean our contributions are not useful or welcome. Not all users can write code. I would venture to say that the majority of users, even in Linux, are not coders. Does that make us worthless? In your eyes only. I think Linus gets a kick out of it, but that is not a crime. He's human. But don't try to twist my words. I admire what Linus has done. I have no idea. But I imagine money is a substantial part of it. If Linus had wanted serious amounts of money, he could have easily had it. In fact, still could. But he's content with reasonable wealth and happiness, IMO. The term is bogus. As is your idea. Linus gets back a lot of things, I would imagine. The respect of his peers. The satisfaction of his work. The pleasure of having created something that's spread worldwide and been taken up by many different people and cultures. Linus clearly doesn't think Linux users are moochers. So, where do you get off, characterising them in that fashion? You don't have that right. I use Linux because I like it... -- Kier EU software patent law faces axe 793 How about shooting me a copy of RHEL if you have one handy? You are just a user, by your own admission here. You are going where the code contributors send you or you...
