I've held the view that these folks are paid to do this for some time, several years, in fact. Again, it's about whether they appear to be taking a rational position based on facts, or, like, eg., Billwg, they take a pro-corporate position, in spite of the facts.

I've seen several arguments that some of these guys are so poor that they couldn't possibly be paid as the quality of their input so so limited, however, what is often neglected in that line is that the audience out there is also spread across a wide range of capabilities, and might not be all that impressed with someone they consider to be 'too clever by half', by might be convinced by someone they see as 'salt of the earth'.

'Course, as you say, some of them are probably towards the 'salt of the earth' end of the spectrum anyway, paid or not.

From where I'm sitting, this group remains a linux advocacy group, so anything which isn't about linux advocacy is off-topic, and ought to be taken elsewhere. Snit and the mac crowd should make their way back to mac groups, and the Windows crowd should be off to the various windows groups.

I could then continue with discussing the hows, whys and wherefores of linux advocacy with all who're interested.
