Well, maybe there is some devil's advocacy in there, Ray. I still never seem to get rational answers to logical questions. The answers that I expect are not so flattering to linux and it's chances in the future, so they are not willingly given, certainly. Instead they say "idiot", "troll", "flatfish", etc.. There are generics, certainly, but only in commodity situations. Like staples, for example.

Shopping goods, meaning products that people think about as having differences and thus having optimal characteristics, don't have generics in general. Years ago there was a fad to genericize a lot of items like beer, cigarettes, and various foods, but it was really an attempt to establish a universal brand for such items. You may think you are aware, Ray, but you are far from it! Consider the nonsense you cite. It is a non-scientific essay by someone with no credential in the science. It appeals to your need for some ammunition to shoot and maybe even appeals to your seat of the pants understanding of the science, but you might as well cite Rex Ballard!
