For the mentally challenged (important points highlighted):

"Windows XP Professional, said Symantec, stays safe just one hour and 12 seconds, while the Windows 2000 Server (with SP4) made it an hour and 17 minutes. An unpatched Windows Server 2003 system lasted ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

somewhat longer. In contrast, unpatched Linux installations of both ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and SuSE Linux 9 Desktop were never ^^^^^^^^^^ compromised during their month-and-a-half exposure to attackers ^^^^^^^^^^^

And this, from above:

Sure, those first figures are *unpatched* (in the case of both MS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ and Linux), and sure, the *patched* Windows fared quite well - as ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ well (it would seem) as the *unpatched* Linux! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The *details* of bugs are not publicized until a fix is available, but not always the existence thereof. For example: Go ahead. Try to get the details. Putting a tarp over the hole...

I'd get that foundation looked at before you find your Windows below ground.

And patched Winders machines fared OK. About as good as unpatched linux machines from about the same era.

Or, do you mean $MONOPOLY ships copies of the OS without any of the recent patches?

I can't imagine GM or Ford not ending up with huge fines if they kept selling new cars long after a safety recall that didn't have the fixes included in the new models. Can you?
