As with any new environment. Not everyone will like every feature, but that's life. At least with Linux, if you don't care for it, you can move to KDE or Xfce, or something else.

Knoppix is crowded because it crams in as much as possible. Not all distros do that.

That's one thing I like, too.

After takin' a swig o' grog, billwg belched out this bit o' wisdom: You're talking about companies such as Hewlett-Packard, SGI, IBM, AutoZone, Novell, Daimler-Chrysler, the Chicago...

So do KDE's, if you only use KDE apps. When I installed SUSE 10 on my old laptop, I deliberately left KDE out. There are one or two apps I do miss (it's a interesting way of discovering which apps are really essential to you, and what you can do without) but mostly I'm getting along fine.

It's about usability. Haven't you complained about Linux apps having names that don't describe their function, leaving new users in the dark about what they do, or where they might find a particular type of program? If you want to browse the web, you'll look for a web browser, right? All part of Gnome's focus on usability.

It's not ridiculous. You may not like it - many don't - but spatial browsing is perfectly valid. As it appears to have been fairly unpopular, in Gnome 2.12 Nautilus has reverted to more familiar behaviour.

I believe it's very popular in corporate use, too, partly because it doesn't take customisation too far. But a lot of ordinary users swear by it too, even though KDE still retains the edge of popularity. I like both environments, but at the moment I prefer Gnome. Makes a nice change of pace.

You may find it so, I think otherwise. So do many others. Have you actually used 2.12?

Polluting what idea specificially? Not in my experience, but let's buttume, for the moment, that that's true. If that's the case, then it's not...
